Briefbag

Exactly as it sounds, the briefbag transforms the briefcase into something a little less rigid, resulting in a more casual look and greater opportunity for features such as exterior zippered pockets. A briefbag fulfills the same purpose as a briefcase but with a different attitude.

Expandable

The expandable briefcase style offers a further twist on the briefcase/briefbag comparison, using extra padding that can expand into even more storage space as needed. Expandable is the ideal briefcase style for business people who are frequently out of the office and on the street, or just the busy executive who's always discovering one more project that requires attention.

Hard/soft

Hard and soft are much more general briefcase style terms than the others listed in this article. Hard and soft refer to the design of a briefcase. Hard briefcases are traditional, rigidly rectangular briefcases with sturdy frames, while soft briefcases are the more modern briefcase style that is bag-like and flexible in design.

More commonly associated with business luggage than traditional briefcases, the rolling briefcase style refers to wheeled business cases with telescopic handles that permit the user to wheel them across the ground rather than carry them.

Traveler

A traveler is the ultimate briefbag. A traveler briefcase usually features padded interior compartments for maximum storage, a fold over flap that can be buckled for traveling safety, and multiple carrying options including a top handle and a padded detachable shoulder strap for longer walks through airport terminals.
