Business Luggage Terms
Backpack A storage pack that is kept on one's back by two handles or straps that slide over one or both shoulders. A business backpack generally features a more compartmentalized interior than standard backpacks. Ballistic nylon A heavy-duty woven nylon originally developed by DuPont to be used in bulletproof vests. Ballistic nylon is a popular briefcase and business luggage material because it is extremely durable and resistant to abrasion and tearing. Briefcase A narrow rectangular carrying case named for its use in carrying attorney's briefs. A briefcase features a handle on its upper end and interior compartments for transporting cases and files. Duffel bag A long cylindrical bag with few or no interior compartments that is generally used to transport clothes. Duffel bags are named for the Belgian town where the heavy woolen cloth once used to make them originated. Envelope An envelope is a flat rectangular business bag named for the triangular flap that folds over the top in the manner of a paper envelope. Expandable An expandable is a briefcase or business luggage design with compartments that expand one or several inches to provide additional storage space. Laptop A courier or messenger style bag designed specifically for carrying laptop computers. Messenger bag A bag style originally used by couriers or messengers, a messenger bag features a large fold over flap. It is intended to rest on the hip while held in place by a strap slung over the opposing shoulder. Microfiber A tightly woven and extremely fine synthetic fiber commonly used in the manufacturing of briefcases and business luggage. Microfiber is soft, lightweight, durable, washable, and breathable. Rolling A term referring to business luggage with wheels and a telescopic handle that allows for rolling transport rather than carrying. Urban Urban refers to briefcases or business cases with more modern designs similar in style to messenger bags and intended to accommodate the carrying of tech items such as laptops and PDAs. |
